How do you care for linen fabrics properly?

Linen is one of the oldest textile fibres in the world and is made from the stems of the flax plant. Especially in spring, pastel blouses, shirts or trousers made of linen are eye-catchers and convey a light and airy spring feeling. The material is especially popular on warmer days because it is breathable, skin-friendly and also ideal for allergy sufferers. The flax fabric gets its beautiful shimmer from a light and natural wax coating that reflects the light.

What is very important with linen fabric is the right care. The team at TUBIE Ironing Machine reveals the best way to wash and iron linen clothing.

First of all, the more often you wash linen, the softer and more supple it becomes. However, it is important that the flax fabric is washed gently and at low temperatures. After all, it is a purely natural material, comparable, if you like, to human hair, which is also treated gently and carefully.

If you want to wash very gently, use neutral soap, soap nut or other ecological detergents and wash with lukewarm water at about 40 degrees. Colour or white detergents should be avoided altogether because they dry out the linen fibres and make them brittle. Such detergents also contain bleaching substances.

If you wash in the washing machine, you should use the gentle programme and avoid a high spin speed, because the high pressure and the "squeezing" of the clothes in the machine wrinkles the fabric unnecessarily. The drum should also not be completely full when washing so that the clothes can move and do not come out so creased afterwards.

If you prefer to wash your linen clothes by hand, be careful not to scrub or rub too hard. Afterwards, wring out the garment carefully.

Never put linen clothes in the dryer because they are guaranteed to come out all wrinkled. It is better to hang such garments damp on a hanger and let them air dry, or put them directly onto the TUBIE ironing dummy while they are still damp.

If you do not have a TUBIE shirt ironing machine and have to iron by hand, ideally use a steam iron and be sure to turn the garment inside out when ironing because otherwise shiny spots will appear. By the way, this cannot happen with the TUBIE shirt iron because it only gets about 50 degrees hot.
