How to clean your washing machine - Tips from the TUBIE Shirt Ironing Team

We have already reported about the problem of musty laundry after washing shirt and blouse iron. One reason for this may be an unclean washing machine. That is why it is so important to clean the washing machine from time to time. This is also not at all time-consuming. Read in the latest TUBIE ironing doll and ironing machine blog how to clean your washing machine effectively.

The main cause of soiling in the washing machine is washing at low temperatures and the constant use of liquid detergents. Grease, lint and soap residues accumulate not only in the lint filter but also in non-visible areas of the machine, for example in hoses, seals and underneath the drum. If individual parts of the machine cannot dry properly after use, mold will form and the laundry and washing machine will smell musty shortly after the wash cycle.

Cleaning washing machine

To clean the washing machine, you need a bucket of warm water, detergents such as citric acid and vinegar, or special washing machine cleaner from the drugstore, a cloth and about 15 minutes of time. First, you should clean the outside of the machine with a damp cloth. Then you can venture to the lint filter. To do this, you need to open the baseboard of the machine, and turn the sieve out of the opening. You may find many lost things there, such as coins, buttons, etc. You can also wipe the seals with a damp cloth and detergent, because especially in front loaders, water usually remains in the door seal, where mold and debris can form. Last but not least, you need to clean the filler tank, because foul-smelling detergent residue can build up there. Simply take it out and rinse it as usual.

Prevent

Do not let it come to a moldy washing machine in the first place and take preventive measures. When you are not using the machine, you should always leave the door and the detergent compartment open a little so that the residual moisture can escape. To protect the machine from germs, you should run it regularly at 95 degrees, because this allows grease, deposits and soap residues to dissolve.

If you run your machine at 95 degrees about every 14 days and clean the load compartment regularly, you should no longer have a problem with musty laundry. In addition, you can also still use a special washing machine cleaner once or twice a year, or simply put vinegar in the filler compartment and let the washing machine run through at idle on a boil wash cycle.
