If the mishap has happened, you should act quickly while the stain is still fresh. First dab the stain with a cloth, but definitely do not rub it, otherwise you will only massage the stain deeper into the fabric. Cleaning upholstery with baking soda
One of the most popular and cheapest home remedies for removing stains is baking soda. It is environmentally friendly, odourless and has a disinfecting effect. It also fights fungi and spores, bacteria and even dust mites. You can clean your sofa with baking soda either dry or wet. We at TUBIE Ironing Doll and Ironing Machine prefer the wet version, because even stubborn stains can be removed well this way.
If you have chosen dry cleaning, you will need 200 grams of baking soda and a hoover. Spread the soda powder generously and evenly over the sofa and leave it to work for several hours. Then simply vacuum up the soda powder again with a hoover.
If you want to remove dried-on stains or simply want to clean your couch properly again, wet cleaning is a good option. Here, too, you need 200 grams of baking soda, a soft sponge or cloth and a hoover. Again, spread the bicarbonate of soda powder on the upholstery and carefully massage it into the fabric with a damp cloth or sponge. Then leave it to work overnight and vacuum up the remains with the hoover. Then leave the sofa to dry thoroughly with the windows and doors open. Caution: Do not use baking soda on leather.
Cleaning the Couch with Curd Soap or Glass Cleaner
If you have a microfibre couch, you can clean it quite well with curd soap and distilled water. Distilled water is so important because it does not leave unsightly limescale marks. Lather the curd soap lightly with water and a sponge and rub it onto the area to be treated. After a short reaction time, remove the soap residues again with distilled water.
A tip on the side from the TUBIE shirt and blouse iron team: If you have specky spots on your microfibre couch, you can remove them with glass cleaner. Simply spray the affected area and then work on it with a brush and distilled water.
Cleaning the imitation leather couch
Imitation leather is a very easy-care material and is well suited for a sofa, especially if you have children or pets. For dark leatherette, you need lukewarm water, washing-up liquid and a soft cloth, and for light leather, use mild detergent or detergent for whites instead of washing-up liquid. Dampen the cloth with a little washing-up liquid or detergent and wipe the sofa cover with it. Done.
Clean leather sofa
Leather sofas are noble pieces of furniture and therefore also quite expensive to buy. It is therefore all the more important that you know how to remove stains from your beloved sofa gently and carefully. Special saddle soap or leather soap is suitable for leather. However, before wet cleaning, test a small area to see if leather is also suitable. Spray a few drops of water on the leather and see if the water rolls off. If this is the case, lather up saddle or leather soap with a little distilled water and rub the spot with it, then wash off the soap residue and you're done. Biros stains can be removed quite well with milk, which we shirt ironers have also tried. Simply pour milk onto a paper towel and wipe over it. If you have biros stains, you can try very fine sandpaper.
