Washing and drying down jackets - tips from the TUBIE shirt ironing team

It is bitterly coldoutside and our warm down jacket is used every day. But how do you get a soiled down jacket or a musty down coat smelling fresh and clean again? Of course, you can simply take the good piece to the dry cleaner, but that takes time and is relatively expensive. We from the TUBIE Ironing Doll and Ironing Machine Team like to take matters into our own hands. But to make sure nothing goes wrong, you should keep the following things in mind.

It is important that the down piece has plenty of space and freedom of movement when it is washed in the washing machine. The washing machine should have a capacity of at least 6 kilograms and should not be crammed full. We shirt ironers advise washing the down jacket or down coat alone in the machine. We recommend the "delicates" programme, because in this programme the water level is quite high and the drum moves little.

Drying down jackets or coats is more difficult, because the garment should not be spun under any circumstances and is dripping wet after washing. If you hang up such down jackets dripping wet, the drying process will take several days and they will eventually start to smell like a wet dog. You also have to shake them up every now and then so that the down doesn't stick together. If you have a TUBIE shirt ironing machine, you have a clear advantage here, because the drying process with our ironing machine takes about 20 minutes and the down is only blown dry and shaken by hot air, so it doesn't clump together. The down jacket or down coat is quickly dry again and smells fragrantly fresh.
